Wrestle Kingdom 12

Post by Big slim » Mon Nov 06, 2017 5:01 pm

So over the weekend it was announced that at New Japan's biggest show of the year, the January 4th Wrestle Kingdom 12, Kenny Omega, whom many would argue is the best wrestler in the world today, will defend his IWGP United States Championship against Chris Jericho, who will be having his first match outside the confines of WWE in 17 years and his first match for New Japan in nearly 20. The hype has been built up in a Twitter feud between the 2 over the past couple of weeks, but according to Jericho the match has actually been in the works since mid-August as he is preparing for his Wrestling on the Seas thing next year. He originally wanted NXT to be apart of that show (as he is fitting the entire bill and wouldn't cost WWE money) but plans fell through so he went to ROH and New Japan, this match likely being a part of the negotiations. Should be an exciting show.

Other high profile matches include Kazuchika Okada, the current and longest reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion taking on the winner of the 2017 G1 Climax Tetsuya Naito, Cody Rhodes putting the ROH World Championship on the line against Kota Ibushi, and Marty Scurll putting his IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship on the line against Hiromu Takahashi, Kushida, and Will Ospreay.

Interesting dude Omega is. You know Triple H would kill to have that guy on the roster, but I think we may have another Sting or Abyss on our hands and out of loyalty to New Japan, he may not ever go to WWE.

I think some of that was in character, but if he feels that way about being the hot dude in wrestling and that the WWE is beneath him, who am I to argue. I personally would take AJ Styles over anyone right now (which is not how I've always felt, especially during his TNA days,at least until he was almost out and really evolved his...style), but hey to each his own.

Jericho being on the show, whether the match is any good or not, is a huge when for New Japan as that will bring more eyes on that product, especially from crowds that don't normally watch too much non-WWE wrestling.

I expect it to go full idiot. Jericho loves to get counter-y and that's a game Omega likes... well that and kicking out of everything and throwing out a billion V-Triggers in the second half of matches.

It will get ate up though.

Over or under 7 and 3/4 stars from Ol' Davey Meltzer?

Meltzer's rating system has a Y2K problem, that I hope can be solved by Y2J.

For anybody who actually watches the tv show and doesn't want content spoiled, avoid this video. If not, enjoy the next chapter of a certain feud.
