I'm surprised, not that you only have Nak/Okada and Styles/Hash/Naito as contenders to win, but you have nobody close enough to lose a roadblock match that keeps them from tying. Having contenders that trip up on the final day is a staple and yet you only have one guy (Naito) in that position

Didn't really think that far ahead tbh. Just made my picks and got out of there.

The biggest struggle that I had was having guys like Naito, Ibushi, Styles, Goto, Nakamura and Okada lose in general. They are all perceived as better than so many guys in their blocks but I know they aren't winning all those matches, it was a real struggle for me, first time I ever did it to the extent of picking each match instead of just picking point totals.

I have the advantage (from my copious fantasy booking) of not blinking at predicting tournament losses, so I can empathize with that sense of not being able to envision losses. I just know that last year was exceptionally top heavy (with only Fale being in contention besides Nak/Hash and Styles/Okada) and that is quite abnormal. I don't expect them to do that two years in a row. There will be banana peels somewhere along the way

I've been trying to think of whose going to be the most random guy to make a legit run at being in the final and I can't get over Karl Anderson. He's got a good history in tournaments and was fairly pedestrian last year.

I'm loving Takahashi to get a miracle run going, just to slip up to fucking Honma on the last goddamn day.

Fale getting eliminated by a Fucking Toru Yano Rollup simply must happen.

I have been looking at my picks again and have to say that the Yujiro hot run early actually has some merit to it, Goober.

Woke up (after an unreasonable 11 hours of sleep) just in time for Tanahashi/Ibushi, and whoooooooooo-boy, was it a happenin'. Follow THAT, rest of the tournament.

Naito/Fale was good, then Fale went back to being a bad pro wrestler in time for the finish.

Hopefully this is Gallows' last G1, can't stand him in this, he's just so unnecessary in it.

Yeah, Gallows is dead weight. You can tell he learned his lessons in WWE on how and when to play to a crowd, but he's just not good at it. He has to be in there as one half of the tag champs, but yeah, I'm definitely on board with this being his last. Give me YOSHI-HASHI, next year.

Two days in, and I'm 10 for 10. Which means the wheels can fall completely off my predictions any day now

I'm waiting for a commentary version of the show to come up on NJPWWorld, there was a problem converting over it seems.

It was noted on the schedule that it would just be the hard cam feed. I think what's there is what you'll get. When I checked out the AJP Champion Carnival, a couple years ago, most of the round robin shows were done like that. Has an interesting vibe to it, just listening to the crowd.

The production was run in the same way that they do for any Road To... show they put up on NJPWWorld.

And having punched in the video on NJPWWorld, yup, what they aired live is what you get posted on demand

I had that on and decided not to watch it hoping for commentary. I love NJPW commentary even without understanding beyond "Aye"

Woah, Karl Anderson with the big upset! Wasn't really all that into the show, hard to pickup on the action from that lens.

I do fear that this upset makes me regret my Nakamura pick long term. He'll get his win back over Goto and is setup to beat Okada in this tournament, that's his purpose here I feel. Should've stuck with what my gut was telling me long term.

I picked Naito and Nagata, mostly on account of my year long biases towards them. But as Greg's official picks were made based largely off of my predictions: http://wrestleviewradio.com/wvidesk/201 ... -the-year/
And lead to Styles and Nakamura winning their blocks, we're firmly in the belief that Nakamura going all Godfather and settling his accounts, before heading to WK 10 makes more than perfect sense. Don't fret after Day 1 Red. Sleepymura is just resting up

I just don't think they are going to do Styles/Nakamura in an already sold out Sumo Hall. If they were doing Seibu Dome again, then maybe, however, their incentive to hold off on that is significant imo.
