Jama, I'm just going to throw this out there to make you feel good.

I was looking up results in the old tournaments and there's never been a New Japan Cup run that didn't have at least one of Yuji Nagata, Hiroshi Tanahashi, or Hirooki Goto wrestling in the finals.

Just something for the memory banks

I wanted Jama to feel good about going out on the Goto limb. Don't take that away from him

Jason should have 1 point deducted for any right answers, on account of not predicting everything at the same time

If he wins this, it will certainly be tainted. At least he didn't pick Benjamin to win, having taken him to lose in the first round.

I'm not sure what the best strategy is re: this. I think I'll wait to see what the final standings are for a final ruling. Of course, this could be remedied if Jason just picks the rest of the tournament.

I read the results for the second round and I can't. I simply cannot handle this tournament I think I laughed for 3 minutes straight. Nope, it cannot be happening, it cannot be real.

So after that bloodbath to all of our brackets yesterday, the standings are as follows:

Greg McNeish - 9 (with Suzuki/Nakamura available)
Jason Namako - 9 (locked in, can't do any better, I'll explain below)
Jama7301 - 9 (locked in, can't do any better)
Me - 7 (locked in, can't do any better)
GooberBM - 6 (locked in, can't do any better)

Why Jason is locked in:

(1) he didn't get either semifinal participant from the top half of the bracket correct and if I allowed him to pick that match correctly, he'd have a chance to get it right that none of us would have,
(2) Since I decided to not allow him to pick that match correctly, he would just pick someone from his bottom half to win the whole thing and since he never picked a winner at the start, I can't allow him for the sake of fairness to get points for it.

So, the result is only Greg is capable of winning it on his own, needing Suzuki to beat Nakamura to win the Pool. There's a three way tie for first, Goober and I are sobbing uncontrollably because we picked ZERO QF matches correctly and therefore have no more points available. Jama picked one correctly in Nakamura, but had him losing to Goto, so he can't get anymore points.

I think the fairest tiebreaker (for those tied in 1st) is as follows:

Pick how long you think the Final match will be. You can go over. It's just going to be the closest one to the actual time of the match. It will go from bell to bell, so entrances and pageantry will not count. For the sake of fairness, if the participants could PM their selected time to me, that would be more beneficial. That way we don't get people getting Price is Righted here.

It is so ordered in the 14th Circuit of Internet Court, citation: 1 Wstview 1 (14th Cir. 2014) (per curiam)

I don't even care about not predicting the matches right. I just want to know how on earth Jado and Gedo jumped to the conclusion that we need a Bad Luck Fale/Shelton X Benjamin New Japan Cup semi-final match.

What the hell are they smoking in Japan?

I just realized that Shelton Benjamin or Bad Luck Fale are going to get an IC Title shot against Tanahashi. Lay off the reefer, NJPW.

The decision to put Benjamin over Shibata today is as bad as TNA having Angle beat Samoa Joe in their first meeting in '06. This is right up there with one of the worst booking decisions by a wrestling company in 2014 so far. FUCKING TERRIBLE!!

With Fale, at least he is getting pretty decent as a big-man in New Japan over the last little bit. Besides one G1 match with Nakamura, Benjamin has downright SUCKED in New Japan since coming in.

The cup is now Nakamura's to win, but this is such a horrible way to get to the big Nakamura/Okada match. I almost feel like Fale/Okada, as crazy as it sounds, may be a better option right now, with Fale beating Suzuki in the finals and Suzuki facing Tanahashi for the IC Belt at Invasion Attack.

Whatever the case, jobbing out Shibata clean in the 2nd Round to Shelton when they goddamn teased Shibata/Okada at New Beginning killed all of Shibata's momentum and pretty much ruined Invasion Attack being a big-time draw for New Japan this year. I love New Japan, but they shot themselves in the foot with this one.

Whoa Jason. Whoa, slow down there.

There is a built-in story with Goto and Shibata wrecking Bullet Club at the Anniversary and Shibata going over Anderson in the first round. That could be the play on the Shibata front.

Shelton is meant to be fodder for Fale here, without a doubt, and I definitely want to SEE how this went down before I condemn it. But there is absolutely a shock still resonating through me at the moment
