Just started tinkering around with Let it Die on the PS4. What a strange Free to Play game it is. It's an action/brawler Roguelike.

I am less than 2 hours in and I love Final Fantasy XV to pieces.

Also picked up FIFA 17 on sale today off PSN.

It's a less juvenile The Hangover so far, in terms of how the cast gets along. The combat is pretty interesting, as you can change your weapons on the fly and alter your combos, do a team up attack with any of your 3 companions, and use positioning, like blindside attacks for extra damage.

It's closer to a Kingdom Hearts styled combat more than anything else Square has done, but that's still not close. Instead of mashing the attack button, you hold it and told the stick in different directions to change your combo mid stream, and switching your weapons with the d-pad. It's fluid as hell. Factor in the fact you can teleport in and out to initiate attacks, and use well timed blocks to open the enemy for counter attacks, and you get a really free flowing combat system.

That's good. Not just a point and click experience like FFXII, then. That's the impression I was getting from the vids I saw of it (which were admittedly few and far between).

As for myself, I've been perusing the boxing day flyers for the local electronics/games stores and the only games on sale I'm even remotely interested in are WWE 2K17 and NHL '17. May pick up one or both of them on Tuesday (out stores in Newfoundland are closed on actual boxing day)

AGDQ (Awesome Games Done Quick) is wrapping up a week-long speedrunning marathon, featuring races, individual runs, and other speed-game related things. They're raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, and at the time of this post, they have raised $1.95 million dollars, a new record for them, and they just hit $10 million over the course of the AGDQ event (about 6 years).

Update, As I was typing this, they broke $2 million, and it's now sitting at $2.030 million.

Hooray charity and generosity!

The same group holds SGDQ (Summer Games Done Quick) over the summer for Doctor's Without Borders. It used to be a side event that ran for less than a week, but it's grown to be it's own weeklong event.

Jama! Good to hear from you, fella.

They sound like wonderful people, very reminiscent of Newfoundland's own Sandbox Gaming. Awesome stuff!

I've been busy with work and being lazy. Working on editing some audio for a friend, and been playing FIFA17 and Final fantasy XV. All that jazz.

Am I the only one that thinks that the Nintendo Switch sounds horrible? 720p graphics, 2 hours of battery life, and GPU and CPU clock speeds that are measured in MHz are unacceptable in 2017. That falls somewhere between a 4 year old Android tablet and a 10 year old X-Box 360. I'm sure that first party games like Zelda and Mario will be good because it's Nintendo, but good luck getting any sort of quality 3rd party ports. That's not even taking into account a subscription price to play online.

I love you Nintendo, and I know that not-powerful hardware is kind of their thing, but the Switch is just ridiculous. We live in a world where 4K TV's are becoming the standard, where affordable tablets have upwards of 8 hours of battery life and nice screens, where game consoles are multi media machines with very robust online services, and the 3DS is still a thing that I can buy and will likely be a much better value.

But by that argument, you could say Sony and Microsoft are far behind PC gaming. Your points are valid, but the experience is more than just the visuals or power. If the overall experience is a good one and the gameplay offered is as good as you can find anywhere else, then the flaws can be ignored.

Has anybody played the Doom revamp? I'm super interested in it, but hesitant because of a bad experience with the demo. It's getting a ton of love in end of year reviews and I have a chance to get it at a 70% discount. Firsthand experience would be great.
