Saturday Week 1 December
SHIMMER Women Athletes Volume Sixteen
Frontier Fieldhouse: Attendance – 1520

(1) Kimber Lee vs. Courtney Rush
Kimber (2:45) via German Suplex hold
Rush was more than holding her own at the very early portion of this match until the music of Veda Scott came on and a distracted Rush fell to the attack from behind by Kimber Lee
Rating: D

After the match, Veda Scott and Heidi Lovelace come out and put the boots to Rush until she is fully incapacitated and then they walk off with Winningpeg's finest
Rating: C+

We go to the back where Dave Prazak is with Portia Perez and Tomoka Nakagawa. Prazak simply holds up the mic and lets Portia tell us all that she may have been down after her former partner Nicole Matthews turned her back on her, but she's never down for long. She's found someone that has recently gone through some partner turmoil herself and they understand and respect each other. Frankly, she doesn't see how this could be anything but a partnership that will last.
Nakagawa whispers something into Prazak's ear and Prazak reports that she certainly cannot be happier working with someone like Portia Perez and she hopes everyone underestimates them because it will make their conqueiring SHIMMER's tag teams that much more satisfying. She then whispers something else to Prazak and he grins and says he'll be waiting on her after her match. Portia kicks Prazak in the backside and shakes her head, telling him not to be such a disgusting pig
Rating: C-

We switch over to new SHIMMER backstage reporter Carly Rae, who is with the Lucha Sisters and Leva and Mia are confused. They are absolutely convinced they've seen Carly in the ring before. And she says that was a while back but not recently. And Leva isn't convinced because there certainly are not very many female referees but Carly reiterates that now she is safely in the back talking to the girls.
Mia tells Carly not to worry about Leva, she gets worked up when there's a tough fight in front of her, and Made in Sin definitely constitutes a tough challenge, for anyone else let alone for them. And they know that people are buzzing now that the Lucha Sisters dropped the SHIMMER Tag Titles, and they want to take their shots. But they aren't concerned about that because it was just one bad night, and they're coming back stronger than ever so they're going to do what they do best.
LUCHA SMASH! Leva calls out and stomps off. Mia smiles politely and tells Carly good luck as she goes off to keep up with her partner
Rating: C

(2) Davina Rose vs. Rhia O'Reilly
Davina (4:25) via Standing Girl Hug
A happy-go-lucky Davina Rose is not something that Rhia O'Reilly is naturally disposed to dealing with, and even though Rhia tries to beat the tar out of Davina, her recent run-ins with The Originals have toughened her up and she's able to subsist until Rhia makes the error she needs to clasp her into one of her patented Standing Girl Hugs to get the win
Rating: C

We go to the back where a frantic Heather Patera is being followed by Melanie Cruise as she looks for the missing Courtney Rush. They hear yells and see Evie, Hamada, and Christina Von Eerie surrounding a table. They push through to find that Rush has been put through the table. Patera goes to her side to find out what happened, and Rush can only whisper Veda...power...bomb before she goes limp. Cruise asks what Patera wants to do and Miss Natural says they're going to get Rush to a trainer, and then it's time...to have a talk with Miss Veda Scott
Rating: C+

We switch over to another location with the Kimber Bombs. Kimber Lee says she's not going to thank Veda Scott and Heidi Lovelace because she was more than in control of her business with Courtney Rush because she's finding her groove just like her girl Cherry.
Cherry agrees and says things are about to get interesting in SHIMMER because the teams that think they are safe are going to find out that they, in fact, aren't. It's about time for an explosion as the new blood starts making their way, and nobody does it better than they do. And everyone better watch out because you don't want to be nearby when the Kimber Bombs blow up
Rating: C-

(3) Portia Perez & Tomoka Nakagawa vs. Aussie Rules Wrestling - Jessie McKay & Shazza McKenzie
Portia (4:46) via 120% Superkick on Shazza
Portia and Tomoka didn't get off on the fastest foot early on, as the more seasoned Aussie team was able to get off on the right foot, but once they settled in, the new team was able to get it together and Tomoka was able to use her dirty tricks to Portia's advantage, blinding Shazza with a water spit so she never saw the Superkick coming
Rating: D

We go to the back where Allison Danger is ambushed by Au Naturel. Before Danger can ask anything Heather Patera says they want her little weasels Veda and Heidi tonight. When Danger asks why they care about someone like Rush and what happens to her, Cruise steps up and says that Patera stood beside her when nobody else did, and if she stands beside Rush so will Cruise. And Melanie Cruise doesn't let anyone put their hands of one of their own, and get away with it.
One of your own, you're own what? Danger asks. She tells them not to get carried away because she does like the two of them. They have spunk and the angle they're taking, the crowd really responds to. But that is not an invitation to cross Danger or HER kind. If Patera and Cruise have been paying attention lately, that's not a game they're going to win, but if they're so certain they want that fight, she'll make it happen. She just warns them to be careful what they ask for because they might not like what happens when they get it
Rating: C

Speaking of things people don't like, we go to another location where Mercedes Martinez, Cheerleader Melissa, and Nicole Matthews are all together. Mercedes goes first pointedly reminding Serena Deeb that whether she likes it or not she's never done with The Originals. Not until they say so. And they're not done with her, as long as she carries their SHIMMER Title. So tonight, she's going to have to go with The Latina Sensation again, and if she wins, they'll just have to do it again, and again, and again, until Serena learns her place in their world.
Nicole and Melissa then step up and Melissa is not looking happy. She says someone else that needs to learn her place is the little Kiwi girl, Evie. She had the audacity...to KICK Melissa in the face, and roll her up, then run like a dog. Yes, Melissa lost, but all Evie has done is put a target on her own back. If Evie hasn't paid attention, Melissa has a long memory...and a very short fuse. And that fuse is already lit. Heaven help Evie, and anyone that's near her, once Melissa gets her hands on her.
Rating: C+

(4) Hamada vs. Cherry Bomb
Hamada (7:31) via AP Cross
After their words earlier, it's not surprising that Cherry Bomb gives it a good go and pushes Hamada to have to show up. But this mismatch in class is just that and it's not long before Hamada overwhelms her outmatched opponent
Rating: C-

Hamada celebrates with high fives for the crowd after the match
Rating: B-

Carly Rae is then in the back with Made in Sin. She tries to ask them how they feel about facing the former SHIMMER Tag Champions tonight and Taylor looks distraught. Of course when it's finally their turn to knock those frauds off their pedestals, they've already proven how useless they are by getting beat. Now they have to get back in line and work their way up to a SHIMMER Tag Title shot? This is just their luck
Allysin Kay hugs Taylor and tells her that it won't be that way, they're not going to wait for long. Especially not once they drive the final nail in the coffin of those never-weres. When they dismantle Leva Bates and Mia Yim, it will be obvious that nobody else deserves to be the number-one contenders and SHIMMER officials will be forced to accept the inevitable. You are looking at the next SHIMMER Tag Team Champions. Pinkies Up
Rating: C-

(5) Heidi Lovelace & Veda Scott vs. Au Naturel - "Miss Natural" Heather Patera & Melanie Cruise
Cruise (8:37) via Cruise Missile over Heidi
Au Naturel comes out like a ball of fire, looking to smash Veda and Heidi into the next stratosphere, but the evil law firm is able to survive the early push and starts to wear Patera down. Patera is able to break free and get to Cruise, who is licking her chops with the opportunity to destroy the girls in front of her, and Veda and Heidi are just no match for the onslaught, and once Patera nullifies Scott, Heidi on her own is toast
Rating: C+

Au Naturel celebrates, with Patera telling us this one was for Rusher, and Cruise even throwing up Rush's W sign for Winnipeg, in solidarity
Rating: C+

Carly Rae is in the back with the new SHIMMER Tag Team Champions, Jessicka Havok & Sassy Stephie, with Mademoiselle Rachelle in tow. Carly congratulates the pair on their victory at SHIMMER Volume Fifteen and asks if they're ready for the pressure of having the bullseye on them, like any champion in SHIMMER has.
Rachelle laughs and rants in French till Stephie calms her and tells Carly that they're going to give her a pass because she's new here but the fact that she can ask a question like that means she doesn't understand what she has in front of her. You've got Rachelle, the only managerial mind that is brilliant and cunning enough to receive her SHIMMER managers' license. You've got me, the most underrated wrestler on this roster, and I proved that by giving us the opening to win these belts, and then you've. Got. This. Stephie says pointing to the gas mask clad Havok.
And when you have this monster, this destroyer, when you have death in your corner, there's no team to fear. There's no reason to fear anybody because no matter who you put in front of them, they'll all learn the same thing. You cannot escape death for long
Rating: C+

We go to another location with Dave Prazak ready to interview a very focused looking Madison Eagles. He tries to ask her how she's feeling going into this grudge match with Saraya Knight, but Madison says nothing. He asks her if she's feeling worried about the numbers' game coming back to haunt her like it did at Volume Twelve. Madison almost cracks and glares at Prazak but holds her ground. Prazak then asks if she didn't have her morning coffee again and that's why she's grumpy. Madison crosses her arms and finally gives Prazak a stare that looks like she's asking what the hell. Prazak quits and asks Madison if there's ANYTHING that she wants to say.
Madison purses her lips and then says tonight Saraya Knight learns that
Aussies. Rule. Wrestling.
Rating: C+

(6) Nikki Storm vs. Kellie Skater
Skater (6:46) via International Incident
Nikki Storm can scream all she wants, but she's no MsChif. So score one for the good guys
Rating: C

We go to the back with Dave Prazak who's with Evie and Athena. Evie asks first if Prazak's little menace is around, with Prazak saying she and Portia are off enjoying the night after their win. Evie seems satisfied and says she's glad because dealing with The Originals coming after her is one thing, but having that psycho hiding behind a corner is more than she can handle.
Athena steps in and notes that's why Evie doesn't have to handle it all on her own. They both went out last Volume and showed the fans what Athena & Evie are capable of. Evie knew it, they weren't living up to their full potential and she was brave enough to let them both find some success. And they might not win tonight because it's Melissa and Nicole Matthews: Two of the great champions in SHIMMER history. But when this match is over, they'll know they've been in a fight because they're done backing down from anyone. And it's not going to be long before you see them kicking all of the Hussy butt in SHIMMER. And you might even see some gold around their waists
Rating: C

(7) The Originals - Cheerleader Melissa & Nicole Matthews vs. Evie & Athena
Nicole (8:19) via Vancouver Maneuver on Evie
The Originals were, in fact, in a fight because Evie and Athena came to dance. They didn't back down, and their timing has never been better. And their experience as a team had Melissa and Nicole reeling for a bit, but then the quality of two champions of their pedigree shown through and when Athena crashed and burned on a top rope maneuver, Evie was hung out to dry
Rating: C-

After the match, Melissa & Nicole take the moment to send a message to the rest of the SHIMMER roster by Nicole crunching Athena with the Vancouver Maneuver while Melissa plants Evie with the Kudo Driver she couldn't land last Volume. Melissa then locks in the Kondo Clutch on Evie till she taps and cries in agony, only releasing the hold when security storms the ring. Nicole walks off while Melissa smiles and reminds everyone not to cross her and finally leaves the carnage behind
Rating: C+

Carly Rae is in the back with MsEerie and she asks how they're feeling, knowing they've got a huge challenge in front of them in the SHIMMER Tag Team Champions.
Christina Von Eerie is not impressed. Yes, they earned the belts around their waists but they're not special. They're a bunch of bullies, and Von Eerie likes picking fights with people like that. People like that think they're untouchable, until someone socks them in the mouth and they start to taste their own blood. Then they're not so tough, they're like anyone else then. Her partner isn't scared. She's the one that inspires fear, produces torment. People might be scared of death, but they fear Your Soul's Tormenter.
MsChif concurs and says Havok and Stephie don't know what they're about to walk into. They might think it's just a wrestling match but it will end up being so much more than that. It will be a fight. A battle. A war. And it's going to be one that they can't win and you will be living in a world full of MsEerie when they become the new SHIMMER Tag Team Champions
Rating: C

(8) Lucha Sisters - Mia Yim & Leva Bates (as The Incredible Hulk) vs. Made in Sin - Taylor Made & Allysin Kay
AK (5:45) via Eighth Deadlies on Mia
Made in Sin doesn't want anything to do with the Lucha Sisters' shenanigans, even trying to toss Leva Bates' Hulk gloves into the crowd but it's that focus on her cosplay that is the Luchas' undoing as once Taylor gets her hands on the Hulk gloves again, Leva goes after her and it leaves Mia isolated enough that as the ref tries to get Leva back in her corner, Made in Sin takes advantage to hit the Eighth Deadlies on Mia and Taylor runs Leva off the apron to lock up the W
Rating: C

Video recap of Saraya pinning Eagles to win the SHIMvivor Series Match
Rating: C

(9) Madison Eagles vs. Saraya Knight
Saraya (11:31) via pinfall
Oh boy did this not resemble a wrestling match. It ended up more of a lumberjack brawl with the Aussies and the Dynasty making a mockery of the rules on the outside and the loss of control finally took its toll with Eagles locked in the Bridal Rocking horse but using her long legs to try and get the ropes only to have Nikki Storm pulling the ropes away. As the ref gets distracted by the brawl between her and Jessie Mckay, Rhia O'Reilly sneaks in the ring and tries to take a swing at Eagles, only to get taken down by Shazza McKenzie. This distraction is the key, as Saraya loads her hand up and punches Eagles square between the eyes then knocks an arguing Kellie Skater off the apron and into the guardrail. The unconscious Eagles can't beat the 3 count
Rating: C+

Saraya Knight celebrates slaying the Eagles and tells all the nonbelievers to repent or they'll be crushed by the Dynasty too
Rating: C

We go to the back for our final interview of SHIMMER Volume Fifteen as Dave Prazak introduces the SHIMMER Champion, Serena Deeb. Prazak simply hands Serena the floor to do with as she wishes.
Serena has heard a lot of chatter that she's been full of herself, and she needs to stop egging on the The Originals. She doesn't see it that way though. She's beaten Mercedes Martinez, twice before. She's conquered Cheerleader Melissa twice. She said it before but she'll repeat herself. The era of The Originals is dead. It doesn't matter who they recruit, it doesn't matter what plots they cook up. They know they can't beat Serena and they will never get their grubby hands on the SHIMMER Title again. So they can line up as many challengers as they want, The Deebious One will tear them down, one after another, until Melissa, Mercedes, and Allison Danger take the hint. They are done
Rating: C+

(10) SHIMMER Tag Title Match: Jessicka Havok & Sassy Stephie (c's) vs. MsEerie - MsChif & Christina Von Eerie
Stephie (16:12) via Kiss My Sass on MsChif
Boy was this a battle, with the champions flushed with confidence, taking on the battle tested challengers. This was truly a back and forth affair with neither side able to take control for long stretches, but at the end of the day, while there are some things worth fearing more than death, it is the one constant, and Havok brutalizing Von Eerie on the outside was enough to get MsChif's attention diverted from finishing off Stephie, and that gave Stephie the chance to load up the Kiss My Sass and get the win to retain the titles
Rating: C+

Video recap of the history between Serena & Mercedes, specifically from Volumes One through Four
Rating: C+

(11) SHIMMER Title Match: Serena Deeb (c) vs. Mercedes Martinez
Serena (21:44) via Spear
Another 20 minutes of Serena and Mercedes beating the tar out of each other? Yes please. And as we've learned through their previous encounters, Serena has figured Mercedes out and has the gas in the tank to survive her and even though it took almost everything she had, the SHIMMER Champion gets the job done
Rating: C+

After the match an exhausted Serena tries to celebrate until Veda Scott and Heidi Lovelace come out to try and mug her. She fends them off, only to get blindsided by Cheerleader Melissa. The Originals, and their legal advocates proceed to dismantle the champion, punctated by a Fisherman's Buster and an Air Raid Crash. Once all the damage has been down, Nicole Matthews comes out, with a SHIMMER official to the glee of Allison Danger and the shock of Dave Prazak
Rating: B-

(12) SHIMMER Title Match: Serena Deeb (c) vs. Nicole Matthews
Nicole (1:50) via Vancouver Maneuver
As Prazak questions the validity of what is transpiring and Danger spins the tale of how Matthews was properly gifted a SHIMMER Title Match, any time and place shee wanted, the match is started and a completely gutted Deeb tries valiantly but is easily dispatched by Nicole and then dropped by a Vancouver Maneuver
Rating: C+

The Originals and their allies celebrate over Serena with the SHIMMER Title with Melissa and Nicole especially throwing it in her face. Danger is shouting her joy from commentary while Prazak promises there will be an investigation to the validity of this title match, as SHIMMER Volume Sixteen closes out
Rating: B-

Final Rating: C

Women's Wrestling Weekly

SHIMMER VOLUME 16 REACTION

By: Jason Barkley

First and foremost, HALLELUJAH, NEW SHIMMER CHAMPION!

I mean, I'm not absolutely thrilled that it was Nicole Matthews who won the title, but at least it's off that void of Charisma Serena Deeb. At at least Matthews keeps better company that that woman who's a failed Women's WRESTLER and a failed 'sports entertainer'.

So yeah, props to SHIMMER for listening to me and putting the belt back with the Originals.

Now for the bad news... Nicole Matthews. I mean, yeah, she's a solid little worker, but she hasn't done much on her own to warrant a title shot. Plus, I still maintain it should have went to Melissa, as a way to recoup the tragedy that was last volume, when she lost to Evie. Sure, she got her win back this week, but it SHOULD have been a squash, not an 8 minute match. This tag match did very, VERY little to help Melissa's wrecked momentum. I guess Prazak and the other bookers are just destined to bury the best female wrestler on the planet. Even Mercedes would've been a better choice for the new champion than Matthews. This feels very rushed, and leads me to wonder if Melissa and Martinez have pissed off someone backstage.

Thus, the ugly world of politics rears its ugly head.

I can't fucking believe SHIMMER had the audacity to open and close the show with Veda Scott and Heidi Lovelace. Just stupid. SHIMMER is shoving this pair down our throats. They were involved in the Beginning, Middle, AND END of the show! HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO US? These afterthoughts are no more than the Originals trained dogs, why are they so visible?

Havok and Sassy Stephie might be making a case for "Best Tag Team in Wrestling". They compliment each so well, and proved it tonight. Havok was savvy enough to press the attack on the outside to give her partner the edge to pick up the win to retain. It's like these two women have a connection that can even run deeper than a familial one. They don't need chants, or fancy dances to get a reaction from the crowd, and to be champions we can be proud of. Their backstage promo was a solid piece of work, but that's just icing on the DeathMachine Cake.

Can we please get Prazak off interviews? It's like he and Nakagawa are fucking each other with their eyes each time they're in a segment together. Get that goddamn nepotism out of the show, and out of the booking.

Having said that, Nakagawa is a great partner for Perez. Both of them bring the street-smart tactics that allow them to win by any means necessary. If tonight is any indication, the two will be a well oiled machine within two volumes. Perez needs someone who can back up and enhance the underhanded tricks, and Nakagawa can fill that role perfectly.

Just keep her away from Prazak during shows.

Madison Eagles promo was simple, effective, and showed why she's so damn good. And of course, SHIMMER can't have Eagles ever win a goddamn match. Just have to keep burying her, tying her down with a dead weight stable. The Aussies are an anchor to Madison Eagles' career. It is impossible for her to accomplish anything of note when she's associated with these clowns.

Undercard Overachievers

The Kimber Bombs - While Cherry Bomb lost her match, she hung in there with Hamada, which is no small feat. Kimber Lee looked on point in her match, and their backstage promo, declaring themselves the new blood in SHIMMER was well done.

Kellie Skater & Nikki Storm - While they were involved in that clusterfuck that was the Knight/Eagles match, these two had a really good match on this volume. Props to these ladies.

Made In Sin - Thank you for shutting up the Former Chumps. Good promo, good match.

That's all I've got today folks. I'll be back to review Volume 17. Until then, I'm Jason Barkley, signing off for Women's Wrestling Weekly.
