The Book of 2015 - A New Japan Dream (Simulation)

Post by GooberBM » Sat Dec 28, 2013 5:57 pm

So I was going to wait till next week to premiere the next chapter in the New Japan story, but screw that. We're going to jump into 2015 right flipping now.

Coming off the shocking ending at Wrestle Kingdom, New Japan is reeling as the Worldwide Wrestling Elite usher in a new dark era upon the land. But there are some people who haven't thrown in the towel yet and are willing to stand up against the invading force. Hiroshi Tanahashi, the number one contender to the IWGP Heavyweight Title, and Tempest, led by the Rainmaker Kazuchika Okada are banding together to challenge Giant Bernard and his forces.

Also circling their wagons are The Bullet Club, as Prince Devitt solidified his hold on the Intercontinental Title winning at Wrestle Kingdom, while the big men of the stable, DOC Gallows & Bad Luck Fale will challenge for the IWGP Tag Titles at The New Beginning and Karl Anderson and Chris Hero are preparing for a special tag match themselves. The fivesome is determined to achieve complete domination at The New Beginning.

Satoshi Kojima felt like he'd won the war with Hiroyoshi Tenzan when he beat him at Wrestle Kingdom but the Violent Bull continues to charge at him, and Kojima continues to elicit the support of the mercenaries of Gorilla Warfare to help him stave off his once and again rival. That being said, Tenzan will bring together a force to combat Kojima and finally get his hands on his former partner.

With that, here is the card for the tour for The New Beginning:

The Road to The New Beginning

(1) Joshi Showcase: Christina Von Eerie & April Lee vs. Canadian NINJAS - Portia Perez & Nicole Matthews

(2) 8 Man Tag Match: Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka & TAKA Michinoku & Taichi vs. Blue Justice - Yuji Nagata & El Generico & Forever Hooligans - Rocky Romero & Alex Shelley

(3) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Kenny Omega, Naomichi Marufuji & Kota Ibushi vs. WWE - Drew Galloway, Cody Runnels & Naofumi Yamamoto

(4) 10 Man Tag Match: Bullet Club - Prince Devitt, Karl Anderson, Chris Hero, Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows vs. Laughter7 - Kazushi Sakuraba & Katsuyori Shibata, Time
Splitters - Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA & Seiya Sanada

(5) 8 Man Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto, Ryusuke Taguchi & Togi Makabe vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Captain New Japan

(6) 6 Man Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tempest - Kazuchika Okada & Yujiro Takahashi vs. WWE - Giant Bernard & The Fatus - Jey & Jimmy

Yeah, that thing. Now before we move on, there's one last bit of business to discuss from 2014 and that's the Year End Awards.

Naturally, New Japan Pro-Wrestling cleaned up, winning in the following categories:

Wrestler of the Year - Kazuchika Okada
Veteran Wrestler of the Year - Yuji Nagata
Most Improved Promotion of the Year
Match of the Year - Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Tetsuya Naito - Invasion Attack
Card of the Year - G1 Climax Day 4

As well, we had the following wrestlers in the top 10 of the Annual Top 100 List

1 - Kazuchika Okada
2 - Togi Makabe
3 - Hirooki Goto
4 - Yuji Nagata
5 - El Generico
6 - Hiroshi Tanahashi
7 - Luke Gallows
8 - Mitsuhide Hirasawa (Captain New Japan)
9 - Chris hero
10 - Kota Ibushi

Now, back to 2015 we give you the Road to The New Beginning Report for the coming iPPV show

(1) Joshi Showcase: Christina Von Eerie & April Lee vs. Canadian NINJAS - Portia Perez & Nicole Matthews
The tour saw each team pick up 3 wins, with April picking up the pinfall in each win for her side, while Matthews got 2 for her side

(2) 8 Man Tag Match: Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka & TAKA Michinoku & Taichi vs. Blue Justice - Yuji Nagata & El Generico & Forever Hooligans - Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov
This matchup proves to give TAKA and Taichi the platform to challenge the Hooligans for a Jr. Tag Title shot, as TAKA and Taichi each pick up a win during the tour, while Nagata and Romero & Koslov pick up the other wins, but taking two losses on a tour is more than enough to warrant a matchup

(3) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Kenny Omega, Naomichi Marufuji & Kota Ibushi vs. WWE - Drew Galloway, Cody Runnels & Naofumi Yamamoto
Tempest strikes out against the underlings of the WWE, as Tempest's threesome picks up 4 wins on the tour, but Runnels does get a pinfall on Marufuji on the final touring show, to give WWE some momentum going into the iPPV

(4) 10 Man Tag Match: Bullet Club - Prince Devitt, Karl Anderson, Chris Hero, Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows vs. Laughter7 - Kazushi Sakuraba & Katsuyori Shibata, Time
Splitters - Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA & Seiya Sanada
After the first two shows where Bullet Club handled their business things took a turn on the 3rd and 4th shows when Shibata got pinfalls on both Fale & Hero, and after Devitt reasserted control by taking down Sanada, Shibata pins Anderson on the final touring show and demands a shot at Devitt's Intercontinental Title, a match that Devitt accepts, but not without some apprehension

(5) 8 Man Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto, Ryusuke Taguchi & Togi Makabe vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Captain New Japan
Kojima tries using Gorilla Warfare as his shield, to positive effect through the first 3 shows on the tour, but Tenzan gets closer, beating Taguchi in the 4th show, but Makabe & Goto pick up wins in the last two shows, leaving Tenzan seething and looking for a way to get his hands on Kojima

(6) 6 Man Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tempest - Kazuchika Okada & Yujiro Takahashi vs. WWE - Giant Bernard & The Fatus - Jey & Jimmy
Bernard and Tanahashi go back and forth trading wins on the tour, at Takahashi & The Fatu's expense, and leads us to the last show where after Tanahashi picks up the win he has the staredown with Bernard that lets the champion know that the Itzusai is ready to return to his perch at the top of New Japan

With the Road to The New Beginning report in, it's time to release the full card for The New Beginning iPPV, airing live from the Nagoya Dome

(0) 6 Man Tag Match: Yuji Nagata, El Generico & Kazushi Sakuraba vs. KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith & Alex Shelley
(1) IWGP Jr. Tag Title Match: Forever Hooligans - Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero (c's) vs. Taichi & TAKA Michinoku
(2) IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. KUSHIDA
(3) Special Tag Match: Bullet Club - Karl Anderson & Chris Hero vs. Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka
(4) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Yujiro Takahashi, Naomichi Marufuji & Kota Ibushi vs. WWE - Drew Galloway, Naofumi Yamamoto & Cody Runnels
(5) 6 Man Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Seiya Sanada & Captain New Japan
(6) IWGP Tag Team Title Match: WWE - Jimmy & Jey Fatu (c) vs. Bullet Club - Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows
(7) Special Singles Match: Kazuchika Okada vs. Togi Makabe
(8) IWGP Intercontinental Title Match: Prince Devitt (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata
(9) IWGP Heavyweight Title Match: Giant Bernard (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

He had ALL DA TAGZ with Tanahashi. He was in like a billion A* matches all year

Frankly Gallows being number 7 is way more scandalous

Also, guys who work the same matches together tend to lump together:

Makabe & Goto worked together all year and were 2 & 3
Nagata & Generico worked together most of the year and were 4 & 5
Tanahashi & Captain New Japan worked together all year and were 6 & 8
Gallows and Hero...worked together a bunch but not as much as the others and were 7 & 9
Okada and Ibushi worked together all fall long and were 1 & 10

Just works out that way

(0) 6 Man Tag Match: Yuji Nagata, El Generico & Kazushi Sakuraba vs. KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith & Alex Shelley
Shelley stands out as a weak link.

(1) IWGP Jr. Tag Title Match: Forever Hooligans - Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero (c's) vs. Taichi & TAKA Michinoku
*sings Soviet national anthem*

(2) IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. KUSHIDA
I love me some KUSHIDA, but he's been something of a ghost, of late.

(3) Special Tag Match: Bullet Club - Karl Anderson & Chris Hero vs. Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka
Makes more sense the other way, but I could go for a quick little Yano/Anderson program, as we head towards the New Japan Cup.

(4) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Yujiro Takahashi, Naomichi Marufuji & Kota Ibushi vs. WWE - Drew Galloway, Naofumi Yamamoto & Cody Runnels
Gotta figure Omega's next challenger will be an evil invader, from these ranks.

(5) 6 Man Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Seiya Sanada & Captain New Japan
Seiya Sanada AND Captain New Japan? It's jobber heaven.

(6) IWGP Tag Team Title Match: WWE - Jimmy & Jey Fatu (c) vs. Bullet Club - Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows
Shifting from one set of evil gaijin to another is intriguing, but I'm not feeling it.

(7) Special Singles Match: Kazuchika Okada vs. Togi Makabe
#BelieveInOkada

(8) IWGP Intercontinental Title Match: Prince Devitt (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata
No more fucking around. It's time to see what Shibata can do as a singles star.

(9) IWGP Heavyweight Title Match: Giant Bernard (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
Really tough call here, as Bernard winning the title was so insanely secondary to being the first gaijin to stand tall at the end of January 4th. He could lose the title here, and still New Japan would not have won its honour back. On the other hand, for some reason, I'm just not feeling another Tanahashi run, at the moment. I'd happily be wrong, on this one.

The New Beginning
Nagoya Dome - Attendance: 22,263

(0) 6 Man Tag Match: Yuji Nagata, El Generico & Kazushi Sakuraba vs. KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith & Alex Shelley
In the dark match, Alex Shelley ends up being the weak link, falling to a Nagata Backdrop Hold in 7:54
Rating: B+

(1) IWGP Jr. Tag Title Match: Forever Hooligans - Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero (c's) vs. Taichi & TAKA Michinoku
The main show begins with the Hooligans making their first defense of the IWGP Jr Tag titles taking on the mischievous TAKA and Taichi, and try as they might to drag the match into the mud, the Hooligans resist and finally overwhelm TAKA until they hit the Contract Killer, and Romero picks up the fall at the 9:45 mark
Rating: A*

(2) IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. KUSHIDA
KUSHIDA gets a somewhat surprising opportunity to challenge Tempest's Omega for the Jr. Heavyweight title, and although he gives Omega a tough challenge for 12:07, Omega proves again that he's the top guy among the juniors and wins with the Croyt's Wrath
Rating: B+

(3) Special Tag Match: Bullet Club - Karl Anderson & Chris Hero vs. Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka
It's a basic Yano/Iizuka match, but the Bullet Club is not having any of it, and Anderson blows through Yano in 10:07 finishing him with a Gun Stun
Rating: A*

(4) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Yujiro Takahashi, Naomichi Marufuji & Kota Ibushi vs. WWE - Drew Galloway, Naofumi Yamamoto & Cody Runnels
The WWE kids try to hold their own against Tempest, but it's the old man of the group that is the weak link as Naofumi is the one to fall in 10:37, to a Tokyo Pimps from Takahashi
Rating: A*

(5) 6 Man Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Seiya Sanada & Captain New Japan
This match looks like a mismatch on paper, but even with Sanada & Captain New Japan on his side, Tenzan is a man possessed. Being so desperate to get his hands on Kojima leads him to find another gear and he makes Taguchi tap out to the Anaconda Vice in 13:39
Rating: A

(6) IWGP Tag Team Title Match: WWE - Jimmy & Jey Fatu (c) vs. Bullet Club - Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows
The big men in the Bullet Club have put some momentum together and are looking to cash that in by becoming IWGP Tag Team champions, but it is not meant to be today as the Fatus are still to finely tuned to go down here, as Jimmy lands the killshot on Gallows, via a top rope splash in 12:57
Rating: B+

(7) Special Singles Match: Kazuchika Okada vs. Togi Makabe
Okada and Makabe are coming back together again, in a rematch from the G1 Climax, and unlike back in August, Makabe puts it together and beats Okada with a King Kong Knee Drop, in 14:22
Rating: A

(8) IWGP Intercontinental Title Match: Prince Devitt (c) vs. Katsuyori Shibata
We get another rematch of the G1 Climax, with Shibata finally getting a chance to cash in on his win over Devitt during the tournament, but the Bullet Club is focused here and after Fale interference, Devitt is able to hit Shibata with the Bloody Sunday to win in 11:53
Rating: A*

(9) IWGP Heavyweight Title Match: Giant Bernard (c) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
The main event brings the Conquering Gaijin Giant Bernard together with The Man of Talent in a major matchup. They battle for 26:34 and Tanahashi is bringing everything he's got into this, to try to restore some of New Japan's lost honor, but it is not meant to be, as after avoiding a High Fly Flow, Bernard is able to destroy Tanahashi with a Bernard Driver to retain the IWGP Heavyweight title
Rating: A*

Final Rating: A*

Next up is the NJPW 43rd Anniversary Show. The big main event of the show is going to feature the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Giant Bernard and the IWGP Intercontinental Champion Prince Devitt, in a special singles match with specific stipulations. If Prince Devitt wins, he will receive a guaranteed IWGP Heavyweight Title shot. If Giant Bernard wins, a member of the WWE will receive a guaranteed IWGP Intercontinental Title shot, so there are huge ramifications on this main event match.

The secondary main event match is going to feature another special singles match. One year ago, Kazuchika Okada faced off against his CHAOS leader, Shinsuke Nakamura, in a match requested by Nakamura. Now, one year later, Okada is the one requesting a match of his former mentor, as he has seen Nakamura fall and he wants to help Nakamura regain his fire and fight to regain his honor from failing at the Tokyo Dome. Nakamura's self-imposed sabbatical will come to an end at the Anniversary Show when he will face the Rainmaker.

Before we get to the Anniversary show, we have the touring series, with 3 shows, to build up to the big yearly show.

(0) Joshi Showcase: Tomoka Nakagawa & Leva Bates vs. Allysin Kay & Jessie McKay
Leva and Nakagawa are strong on this tour, winning all 3 matches

(1) 8 Man Tag Match: Time Splitters - Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA, Testuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi vs. Toru Yano, Takashi Iizuka & Forever Hooligans - Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov
Yano gets a win on Hiromu in the first show, Naito gets a win on Koslov on the second show, and Shelley picks up a win on Rocky Romero in the final touring show

(2) 6 Man Tag Match: WWE - Drew Galloway, Naofumi Yamamoto & Cody Runnels vs. Gorilla Warfare - Togi Makabe, Hirooki Goto & Ryusuke Taguchi
Makabe and Goto dominate the first 2 shows getting separate pinfall wins on Yamamoto & Runnels, but Drew gets the win on Taguchi in the last touring show

(3) 8 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Kazuchika Okada, Yujiro Takahashi, Kota Ibushi & Kenny Omega vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Captain New Japan, Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask
Tanahashi and his rag-tag team is no match for focused Rainmaker who wipes out Captain, Liger, and Tiger Mask on his way to a perfect tour and his matchup with Nakamura

(4) 6 Man Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima, Kaz Hayashi & Seiya Sanada vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Yuji Nagata & El Generico
Tenzan is still chasing that singles rematch with Kojima, but he's not expecting Kojima to bring in reinforcements, in the names of APJW's Kaz Hayashi, one of his greatest tag partners, and a kid that both he and Hayashi both trained in the AJPW Dojo: Seiya Sanada. Tenzan comes back with a NJPW stalwart, Yuji Nagata and he brings his Blue Justice in the form of El Generico. Kojima does win the first match hitting the lariat on Generico, but Tenzan gets the second win over Sanada. The third match goes to Tenzan, via DQ as Kojima and his allies overrun Tenzan until Masahiro Chono comes off the announce table to help even the odds and Tenzan makes the offer to bring ChoTen back together for one night, at the Anniversary Show, and Chono accepts the offer and they challenge Kojima for a match

(5) 6 Man Tag Match: WWE - Giant Bernard & The Fatus vs. Bullet Club - Prince Devitt, Karl Anderson & Chris Hero
WWE and Bullet Club are coming back together again and this is proving to be the Bullet Club's world as they bring out all the big guns, with Gallows and Fale trumping April Lee and helping Bullet Club sweep all three shows with Devitt and Anderson picking up the pinfalls on the Fatus in all three shows and Devitt taunting Bernard after the final matchup

And with those results in, it's time to announce the card for the 43rd Anniversary Show, which will be held at the Sacred Shithole of Korakuen Hall

(0) Joshi Showcase: Tomoka Nakagawa & Leva Bates vs. Allysin Kay & Jessie McKay
(1) 6 Man Tag Match: Seiya Sanada & Time Splitters - Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA vs. Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi & Ricochet
(2) 8 Man Tag Match: Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka & Forever Hooligans - Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero vs. Laughter7 Katsuyori Shibata & Kazushi Sakuraba & The Bravados - Lance and Harlem
(3) IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Chris Hero
(4) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Yujiro Takahashi, Kota Ibushi & Naomichi Marufuji vs. Bullet Club - Karl Anderson, Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows
(5) 8 Man Tag Match: WWE - Drew Galloway, Cody Runnels & The Fatus - Jimmy & Jey vs. Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto, Togi Makabe, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tomoaki Honma
(6) 8 Man Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Yuji Nagata, El Generico & Captain New Japan vs. KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr & Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask
(7) Special Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Kaz Hayashi vs. ChoTen - Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Masahiro Chono
(8) Special Singles Match: Kazuchika Okada vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
(9) Special Singles Match: IWGP IC Champion: Prince Devitt vs. IWGP Heavyweight Champion: Giant Bernard
If Devitt wins, he gets a IWGP Heavyweight Title Shot. If Bernard wins, a member of WWE gets an IC title shot

Because clean sweeps, yo.

(1) 6 Man Tag Match: Seiya Sanada & Time Splitters - Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA vs. Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi & Ricochet
Sanada and the Time Splitters have a little momentum going. Might as well keep on the gas, to get something out of them.

(2) 8 Man Tag Match: Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka & Forever Hooligans - Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero vs. Laughter7 Katsuyori Shibata & Kazushi Sakuraba & The Bravados - Lance and Harlem
Bravados have been kicking around long enough to get themselves a title shot.

(3) IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Chris Hero
Omega's held the title for a long time, and Chris Hero must be high on the totem pole, after palling around with Karl Anderson for a year and a half. I think it's time, and Bullet Club as a whole are gearing up for a big night.

(4) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Yujiro Takahashi, Kota Ibushi & Naomichi Marufuji vs. Bullet Club - Karl Anderson, Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows
This is a hot trio for Tempest, with all three of them in great shape to be major factors, in the months to come. Bullet Club can afford to drop this one, without skipping a beat.

(5) 8 Man Tag Match: WWE - Drew Galloway, Cody Runnels & The Fatus - Jimmy & Jey vs. Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto, Togi Makabe, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tomoaki Honma
Not feeling at all confident about this choice, but the presence of Honma, and WWE's ongoing domination storyline tip the scale for me.

(6) 8 Man Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Yuji Nagata, El Generico & Captain New Japan vs. KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr & Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask
Tanahashi went winless throughout the tour, on the heels of failing a title challenge. He could use this, and Nagata may still have the legs to work a Bernard program.

(7) Special Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Kaz Hayashi vs. ChoTen - Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Masahiro Chono
CHOTEN~!

(8) Special Singles Match: Kazuchika Okada vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Nakamura laid down the challenge last year, and won. Okada laid it down this year, so it's only suiting that he even up the series. This pairing is just begging to be a headline match at a major PPV (like the G1 Finals, or Wrestle Kingdom).

(9) Special Singles Match: IWGP IC Champion: Prince Devitt vs. IWGP Heavyweight Champion: Giant Bernard
This is probably foolish, with the New Japan Cup deciding a new #1 Contender, next on the schedule, but we now live in a New Japan where nothing is sacred, and the world as we know it no longer exists. Adding this element of uncertainty amplifies the chaos, in all the right ways.

It's going to be virtually impossible for me to not draw A* shows at will, at this point and it's a two pronged attack.

The first part is how I book my tv shows to run my tours. In NJPW's booking, they generally split up the wins between teams during the tours, and the tours aren't meant to affect overall popularity because they generally do not matter. How I temper that with the game mechanics is that in 90% of matches on tv, I end them in draws. It helps leave all the participants unaffected in terms of losing popularity and momentum.

The second thing I do is that I match up the participants popularity and when one side has the clear advantage on the popularity and they're going to win the match, I always limit my booking notes and tell them to just have an open match. I have no compulsion about milking every bit of popularity I can out of a match

I'll put it another way. I have simulated all the way through Wrestling Dontaku in May. I have a full roster (announcers, road agents, etc.) of 75 people. Out of those 75 people, 35 of them have at least B+ popularity in Japan, 19 have A popularity or better, and another 7 of the 40 remaining people are at their known popularity caps.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling's 43rd Anniversary Show
Korakuen Hall - Attendance: 2,000

(0) Joshi Showcase: Tomoka Nakagawa & Leva Bates vs. Allysin Kay & Jessie McKay
The ladies get the dark match again, and Nakagawa is the star, running roughshod on Allysin Kay and taking her out with the 120% schoolgirl to win in 7:34
Rating: C+

(1) 6 Man Tag Match: Seiya Sanada & Time Splitters - Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA vs. Tetsuya Naito & Hiromu Takahashi & Ricochet
One day, I promise, Hiromu Takahashi might not be the low man on the totem pole. But today is not that day as Shelley twists him up with the Shelley Clutch to get the win at the 8:47 mark
Rating: A

(2) 8 Man Tag Match: Toru Yano & Takashi Iizuka & Forever Hooligans - Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero vs. Laughter7 - Katsuyori Shibata & Kazushi Sakuraba & The Bravados - Lance and Harlem
Laughter7 runs roughshod in this match, with Sakuraba and Shibata destroying worlds and ruining lives, until Shibata caves Romero's chest in with a PK to pick up the win in 11:01
Rating: A

(3) IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title Match: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Chris Hero
Tempest and The Bullet Club renew rivalries in this Jr. Heavyweight title match, and while Chris Hero has grown much in the last year and a half and is a strong challenger, Kenny Omega has taken the mantle of the Junior Ace and he is not ready to relinquish it just yet, winning in a spirited 14:40 encounter, after a Croyt's Wrath
Rating: A*

(4) 6 Man Tag Match: Tempest - Yujiro Takahashi, Kota Ibushi & Naomichi Marufuji vs. Bullet Club - Karl Anderson, Bad Luck Fale & DOC Gallows
The two sides come right back together in a 6 man tag match, and while Tempest takes the singles match, Bullet Club wins the 6 man tag match, as Anderson is able to drop Yujiro with a Gun Stun to win in 9:40
Rating: B+

(5) 8 Man Tag Match: WWE - Drew Galloway, Cody Runnels & The Fatus - Jimmy & Jey vs. Gorilla Warfare - Hirooki Goto, Togi Makabe, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tomoaki Honma
In a matchup of sides with much to say about gaining momentum going into the New Japan Cup, Gorilla Warfare is just a little too strong, as Makabe and Goto overwhelm the invaders until Goto uncorks the Shouten Kai to pin Cody and win for his side in 11:47
Rating: A*

(6) 8 Man Tag Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Yuji Nagata, El Generico & Captain New Japan vs. KES - Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr & Jushin Liger & Tiger Mask
Coming back from intermission, is another matchup with sides trying to gain that momentum going into the New Japan Cup, and much like in the first matchup, age and experience matters, as Tanahashi brings this one home for his side in 11:37 after he hits the High Fly Flow on Tiger Mask
Rating: A*

(7) Special Tag Match: Satoshi Kojima & Kaz Hayashi vs. ChoTen - Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Masahiro Chono
Finally, Tenzan gets Kojima in a position where there's nowhere to hide, and with Chono neutralizing Hayahashi, the Violent Bull can finally gain a measure of revenge as he makes Kojima tap out to the Anaconda Vice in 12:55
Rating: A

(8) Special Singles Match: Kazuchika Okada vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Okada requested this match, hoping to bring Nakamura back from the depths and back into the world of the living. That Nakamura is supremely talented is the only reason he lasts 14:03 but his heart and mind aren't in it and Okada dispatches him with a soul-crushing Rainmaker
Rating: A*

(9) Special Singles Match: IWGP IC Champion: Prince Devitt vs. IWGP Heavyweight Champion: Giant Bernard
If Devitt wins, he gets a IWGP Heavyweight Title Shot. If Bernard wins, a member of WWE gets an IWGP Intercontinental Title shot
Prince Devitt isn't stupid enough to think he can go toe to toe with Giant Bernard and live to tell the tale so he doesn't even pretend to try to wrestle this match, as much as he tries to drive this train so far off the tracks that Bernard will eventually make the mistake he needs to be able to win. And to pull it off he throws everything in his arsenal at the IWGP Heavyweight Champ: Steel chairs, exposed ring turnbuckles, DOC Gallows, Bad Luck Fale, and even trying the old pulling the jersey over your face trick, with his lite-brite jacket. All of it was to no avail though, as Bernard just outlasts all the shenanigans and finishes off Devitt with a Bernard Driver in 22:46 to win the match and earn WWE a future Intercontinental Title shot
Rating: A*

Final Rating: A*

And lo, another slam dunk show for Goober.

Wonder if Drew will be the member of WWE to get the IC title shot.
