Main Event Rapid Reaction

We start the night off "right" with, what else, a recap of Raw. This isn't RAW this is MAIN EVENT! Leave Raw to Raw. Danial Bryan going over though was a nice refresher, I had completely forgotten about that. But goddamn these Raw Recaps.

Rating: C+

Why was Renee Young in this segment? All they had to do was have a camera focuses on Punk, and he could've said the promo without the setup. Punk delivered as always. His mic work is always A+ material, and I cannot wait for him to top his 430 day title reign. Renee brought the segment down though. Less Divas, more starts.

Rating: A-

Bray Wyatt squash. Yawn. What we're here for though is the promo. I still can't get over the fact that they paired Husky Harris with these two uncoordinated, untalented lugheads. We get it Vince, you love big guys. Stop with it already. Wyatt stays as creepy as ever, and it felt good watching him squash Ryder. If they keep this up though, he might start getting cheered by the smarter fans in the audience who can appreciate a good gimmick.

Rating: B

Another Raw rebound... Good grief.

Rating: D-

Goddamn it, Renee AND the Miz? Fuck this.

Rating: F---------------

ANOTHER GODDAMN RAW REBOUND? At least it was about one of the few interesting parts of the show.

Rating: F+

Good god, even CM Punk can only work so much magic. He brought the best out of Jack Swagger, but the match was still... Not great. I said this last week, but why is Swagger still on the roster? He's a black hole of charisma. Literally ANYONE on the roster would be better in his position. Let me see Tyson Kidd, or Hunico, or hell, Evan Bourne would be great as that mid-to-upper midcard role. Punk wins, as is the natural order of things. The match would've been a Match of the Year contender if Cesaro was in the match instead.

Rating: B-

Show Rating: C

I'm so tempted to book Punk/Cesaro, and intentionally tank the rating with bad road agent notes, just for the glorious smark feedback. Gotta love my girl Renee getting crapped on.

These guys do such amazing mental gymnastics to validate everything they say, I'm sure He would find an excuse for a no-45-second-Cesaro-Swing.

Hell, look at how he forgot Daniel Bryan was in the Main Event of Raw, and came out on top.

Undertaker's Wrestlemania XXX Opponent?

Early indicators are that Bray Wyatt (previously Husky Harris, real name Windham Rotunda) will be the Undertaker's opponent this year. His phrase "follow the buzzards" are an indicator that his victims are dead, and the long-running moniker of the Undertaker is "The Dead Man". We've reached out to our contacts within the WWE, but they have declined comment. We are led to believe that if they talked to us, they would be tipping their hands. We'll keep you posted as we get closer to WrestleMania.

Friday, Week 2, Sept 2013

2 days until Night of Champions

Taped for Superstars:

The Great Khali defeated Curt Hawkins in 2:31 by pinfall with a Punjabi Plunge.
C-

Real Americans defeated The Usos in 7:55 when Antonio Cesaro defeated Jey Uso by pinfall with a Gotch Style Neutralizer.
B

-------------------------

WWE Smackdown

The show opens with the same video from Main Event, covering Triple H & Shawn Michaels verbally sparring, the Daniel Bryan vs. Dean Ambrose main event, and the aftermath with Randy Orton eating a Boma YES.
A*

The Big Show comes to the ring to read a prepared statement, in which he apologises for his actions at the end of Raw, when he let down the WWE and the WWE Universe, by not following orders. When he's done, Triple H steps onto the stage to thank Big Show for the apology, even though it didn't sound genuine. This is a business, and as in any business, when an employee disobeys a direct order from the COO, it's grounds for termination. Triple H isn't going to fire Big Show, though; he's going to suspend him for the night without pay. That may not seem like a big deal to most people, but for the Big Show it really hurts, because he's broke. Now, they've got a big night planned, with two huge main events, as Daniel Bryan faces World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio, while Rob Van Dam takes on the Face of the WWE, WWE Champion Randy Orton. So, Big Show needs to hurry up and get out, because there's no time to waste. In fact, we need to get started right away, so Triple H asks Dolph Ziggler to get out here right away, because he's up first.
Ziggler makes his way hesitantly to the ring, as Big Show stands there dumbfounded, with Triple H trying to get him moving. No sooner does Ziggler get in the ring than The Shield start making their way down through the crowd. Big Show's eyes light up, and he prepares for a fight, but Triple H orders him to leave right now, or he'll be forced to make his suspension a longer one. Ziggler gives Show a friendly pat on the arm, and the giant finally exits, with Triple H still nagging him on the microphone. With one last angry look at The Shield, who surround the ring with Ziggler alone inside, Big Show joins Triple H in walking to the back.
A*

Dolph Ziggler defeated Dean Ambrose in 7:50 when Dean Ambrose was disqualified when Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns ran in to attack Dolph Ziggler.
Ziggler was rolling, with all sorts of momentum on his side, when The Shield rushed in to beat him down.
A*

With The Shield assaulting Dolph Ziggler in the ring, Tons of Funk roar out from the back to make the save. All three members of The Shield pull away from Ziggler, preparing for the fight ahead, but before Tons of Funk make it to the ring, everything screeches to a halt as "EXCUSE ME" rings throughout the arena. Smackdown General Manager Vickie Guerrero steps onto the stage and announces that she will not have this sort of chaos on her show. If Tons of Funk want to get involved with The Shield, after losing to them in a handicap match last week, then they will do it in a match. This Sunday, at Night of Champions, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins will defend the WWE Tag Team Titles against Brodus Clay & Sweet T, to go along with Dolph Ziggler challenging Dean Ambrose for the WWE United States Championship. As for tonight, since they're all spoiling for a fight, this is now a 6-man tag team match.
B+

The Shield (Ambrose, Rollins & Reigns) defeated Dolph Ziggler and Tons of Funk in 9:37 when Dean Ambrose defeated Brodus Clay by pinfall with a Triple Powerbomb.
A*
As they've done so well throughout their time in the past year, The Shield turn even numbers into a numbers advantage, isolating each member of the opposition, no matter how spirited, until they can finish the job.

Renee Young is joined by the #1 contender to the WWE Championship, Daniel Bryan. She asks him about The Big Show being forced to apologise, then getting suspended, and whether he's worried that Triple H will order someone to interfere in his match, at Night of Champions. No, he says, he's not worried. Does he think Randy Orton will fight fair? No. Does he expect Triple H to stay out of it? No. Does he believe The Shield won't get involved? No. Is he worried about any of those things? No. He's not worried because no matter what obstacles get put in front of him, he has one goal - one focus - and that's to win the WWE Championship. He has never set out to be the Face of the WWE, or any other company. It's never been his dream to have his face on cereal boxes, or magazine covers, or to go on talk shows. He doesn't want the WWE Championship because of what Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Randy Orton thinks it represents. He wants to be WWE Champion because of what it actually means, and that's that he's the best wrestler in the world. That's all he's ever wanted, and come Sunday, there is no force on earth that will stop him from getting it. Is he worried about what Triple H has cooked up for the match? No. The question is, should Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Randy Orton be worried about what Daniel Bryan will do at Night of Champions? Yes. Yes! YES YES YES
A

Raw Rebound: Paul Heyman faking a leg injury, getting exposed by WWE's resident physician, then CM Punk hitting Heyman's "doctor" with a kendo stick.
A

Paul Heyman and the Intercontinental Champion, Curtis Axel, cut a promo in the ring, talking about their handicap match against CM Punk, this Sunday. Heyman says that Curtis Axel got disqualified on Monday, against Kofi Kingston, but that's because he's boiling over with anticipation of what he's going to do at Night of Champions, to keep CM Punk away from Paul Heyman. You see, if CM Punk got through Axel, he wouldn't be coming after Paul Heyman to wrestle him; he'd be coming after Paul Heyman to END him. CM Punk has said that he wants to eradicate him. CM Punk says these things, and Paul Heyman has no reason to doubt that he means it, but Curtis Axel is going to make none of that matter, because Curtis Axel is going to defeat CM Punk, keeping Paul Heyman safe. Right now, he's going to demonstrate EXACTLY what he'll do to CM Punk, this Sunday.
A

Curtis Axel defeated Tyson Kidd in 2:49 by pinfall with a Running Neckbreaker.
B

Paul Heyman climbs into the ring and yells at Curtis Axel to continue the assault on Tyson Kidd, telling him repeatedly to send a message to CM Punk. This continues until the referee reverses his decision, and awards the match to Kidd via disqualification. Axel and Heyman are left standing in disbelief, with the knowledge that if Axel gets disqualified on Sunday, then CM Punk will get his hands on Heyman.
A

Out next is the Money in the Bank contract-holder, Damien Sandow. He says that he is positively ecstatic that this Sunday is Night of Champions, because of this (the MITB briefcase). This briefcase makes Night of Champions HIS night, because this briefcase makes him the Uncrowned World Heavyweight Champion. He goes to continue, but is cut off by the sound of Santino Marella's music. Santino comes out with the Cobra sock already on his arm, and power walks to and around the ring. As he finishes his circuit, Sandow begins to speak, but Santino holds up a hand, and does one more lap around the ring. Once inside, Sandow asks him what he wants that could possibly justify interrupting the Uncrowned Champion. Santino says that he hasn't been around for a while, so he wanted to get a good look at that handsome briefcase, first-hand. It'sa very nice. There's no need to thank him, though, because "you are the welcome." Sandow does not find this to be near as amusing as Santino. He asks if Marella has any other pillars of wisdom to share with us, and Santino asks Sandow if he's going to cash in that nice briefcase for a shiny belt, at Night of Champions. Sandow says that he's going to cash in the Money in the Bank when the time is right, and he's not going to share that timing with anyone who has the mental capacity of... well of all these people in attendance. That said, Santino has been gone for a while, and he did come all the way out here to pay him a compliment, so Sandow offers to shake hands. Santino looks at it, then at the sock on his hand, and tells Sandow that he can't shake, because the Cobra is very dangerous. Sandow is at his wits end, and pulls the sock off Santino's hand. He holds it up in the air, taunting the crowd, saying that he's doing all of them a favour by getting rid of such a silly, juvenile thing. As he turns back to Santino, he says "you're welc——" ... and is met with a stinging Cobra. Santino had another one in his tights, which he put on with Sandow's back turned. Santino trombones for the fans.
A

Renee Young is joined by Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel, who are still fuming about Axel being disqualified after the match. Heyman says that it seems like the whole world is against him. It seems like everyone in the crowd, at home, in the locker room, and even the WWE officials want to see CM Punk brutalise him, at Night of Champions. What if the referee on Sunday decides to take matters into his own hands, like happened tonight, and disqualifies Curtis Axel? Then Paul Heyman will be forced into the ring with CM Punk, through no fault of his own. This is just one big game, isn't it? One big game to jerk Heyman around, making him believe that there's a way out of this, when really it's already been decided that he'll be massacred by CM Punk.
Heyman is unable to continue, as Kofi Kingston comes into frame, saying that the only thing that's already been decided is that everybody's sick of hearing Paul Heyman whine about things not being fair. After all the times that he's stacked the deck, and found ways to steal victory for his clients, he's finally faced with a fair fight, and he can't handle it. There's no big conspiracy, and there's no games being played. CM Punk used to be Kofi's tag team partner, so he knows that when that bell rings, the last thing that CM Punk is looking to do is play games. He tells Paul Heyman not to worry, though, because when he's forced to get in that ring, all alone with CM Punk, it will all be over soon enough. He wishes him luck out there, on Sunday.
A

A video airs, recapping the 6-Divas tag team action from Raw, with AJ Lee on commentary, with the bad girls beating up the Total Divas, after the match.
A

AJ Lee defeated Kaitlyn in 4:49 by submission with a Black Widow.
B-

As the match ends, the Total Divas all come to the ring, looking for revenge. AJ Lee stands paralysed, but eventually gets her wits about her, and turns to flee.

... right into a spear from Kaitlyn. The Total Divas stand over the fallen champion.
B+

Smack of the Night: Last week's tag team main event, with Daniel Bryan winning with a Boma YES on Damien Sandow, but then getting beaten down by The Shield and Randy Orton, while Alberto Del Rio locks Rob Van Dam in the Cross Armbreaker.
A

Renee Young welcomes her guest, the World Heavyweight Champion, Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio tells her to give him a proper introduction, as the most handsome World Heavyweight Champion in history. She very, VERY reluctantly does, while Del Rio beams. Renee brings up the fact that last week on Smackdown, and again this Monday on Raw, he attacked Rob Van Dam, and put him in the Cross Armbreaker, then asks whether this could be firing up RVD for their title match this Sunday. Del Rio says that he hopes so, because he's a Latino, and Latinos love the heat. If RVD gets fired up, he'll play right into the hands of Alberto Del Rio, but then, no matter what he does, he'll play right into the hands of Alberto Del Rio. You see, when Alberto Del Rio was finished with Ricardo Rodriguez, he threw him in the gutter, and that's where he found that old, washed-up, has-been Rob Van Dam. He can't be teaching RVD any of his weaknesses, either, because Alberto Del Rio doesn't have any weaknesses. At Night of Champions, he'll send them back to the gutter, just like he'll do to Daniel Bryan tonight. Si... Si... Si....
A

A video airs recapping the past two weeks for the Rhodes family, as Randy Orton beat Cody Rhodes, then Goldust the next week, resulting in both brothers ending up on the unemployment line.
A

Rob Van Dam defeated Randy Orton in 14:22 when Randy Orton was disqualified.
Late in the match, after Orton had repeatedly taunted and threatened Ricardo Rodriguez at ringside, Ricardo hopped onto the apron and untied a turnbuckle pad, while the ref wasn't looking. He then called the ref over, and while Charles Robinson was replacing the pad, Ricardo slid a chair into the ring. Randy Orton intercepted it, and laughed at Rodriguez, then made a show of winding up to hit RVD with the ref still distracted. That's when Ricardo loudly and forcefully got Robinson to turn back around. He grabbed the chair from Orton's hands, and called for the bell.
A*

R-Truth is shown standing at a merchandise table, with a spread of t-shirts, action figures, belts, and other assorted gear. He begins to deliver a spirited pitch, until Ryback hits the scene. He asks Truth where the Rey Mysterio merchandise is, and R-Truth finds him a mask. Ryback asks about CM Punk, and Truth presents a Brawling Buddy. Ryback asks if there's anything for the Big Guy, and R-Truth shows him a Feed Me More t-shirt. Ryback then asks for some R-Truth merchandise, and Truth says that there isn't any on the table, but there's lots of great stuff they don't have here, that everyone can find exclusively at WWEShop.com. Ryback laughs, and says that yes there is something R-Truth on the table. R-Truth looks and asks him if he's sure. Ryback says that it's right HERE, grabs R-Truth, and slams him through the table. As R-Truth lies in a pile of scattered merch, Ryback turns to the camera, and says that being a salesman is fun.
A*

Rob Van Dam and Ricardo Rodriguez are walking down a hallway, enjoying their victory. EXCUSE ME! Vickie Guerrero is none too pleased, and asks them what they think they were doing out there. This is her show, and they made a mockery of it, with the COO in the building. Are they trying to get her fired? Ricardo, with a smirk, begins to say something about that not being a bad idea, but is cut off by Vickie. She tells Ricardo that if he wants to play games, then he'll have all the time in the world to do it, because he is banned from ringside, on Sunday. He pleads with her in Spanish, but gets nowhere.
B

Daniel Bryan defeated Alberto Del Rio in 16:51 by pinfall with a Boma YES.
A*

After the bell, Randy Orton appears out of nowhere to attack Daniel Bryan. Bryan is through taking beatings, though, and battles back. Alberto Del Rio recovers, and turns the tide, as he jumps Bryan as well. This brings out Rob Van Dam, to even the odds. As the participants of the two championship matches at Night of Champions duke it out, Triple H[/b][/color] leads an army of officials out to separate them. Order is moderately restored, as the show comes to a close.
A*

Final Rating: A*

Everybody loves playing the predictions game, but here in The Face of the WWE, there are prizes. Whomever correctly predicts the most outcomes will be able to choose a "dream match" for an upcoming episode of WWE Main Event, involving anybody on the active roster. That's the kayfabe active roster, by the way, so The Rock, for instance, is only available during periods where he's appearing for the company. In case of a tie, every winner will receive the prize, allowing multiple dream matches to take place. To promote competition, though, if more than one person submits the exact same set of predictions (calling every match the same), only the FIRST of that set received will be eligible to win. Without further adieu....
