I just realised the regular season starts in two weeks! Edmonton's first game is October 8th on the road against the Blues.

In his debut with the Pens, Kessel netted two goals wit the Croz getting the assist on both of 'em. They're looking like they could be quite the formidable team.

The chemistry is definitely there. :D

Oh dear. Well, if anyone ever was able to pull it off, Jagr was the one.

Re: The NHL Offseason Thread

I was gonna start a new thread, but it's mostly just LC and I talking about hockey, so we might as well just use the existing one.

So, big news right on the heels of Pittsburgh's win is that next year will see an expanded league for the first time since Columbus and Minnesota came into the fold (for the second time, in Minnesota's case). The new city? Las Vegas. Vegas has been clamoring for a major league sports team and it looks like hockey is coming to town to fill that void. How will a hockey team fare in the city that never sleeps? I have no earthly idea. It could do well based on Canadian tourism numbers alone, but it's hard to say. I don't anticipate it being much of a natural hockey town otherwise, but with no other game in town, Vegas might just get all-in behind it like the Blue Jackets fans.

Personally, I thought either Arizona or Carolina would relocate before we got expansion (especially the latter if the stories of the Hurricanes financial woes are true), but it looks like Vegas is going to be a whole new franchise and not a relocation. Quebec City was also in the running, everyone there hoping for a return of the Nordiques, but it was not to be, at least not right now. Seattle seemed to be on the verge of it, but have arena troubles and the investors are more worried about bringing the NBA back before bringing in an NHL team. (Personally, and with admitted bias, I would think that hockey would do fantastic in Seattle and that the investors are foolish to focus so heavily on replacing the Supersonics, but I know nothing)

With that said, let's see what else the off-season holds. Always some trades and contract talks to keep the hockey talk going.

Trades, cap issues, expansion team, and free agency. Let the 2016 off season insanity begin!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Flower move, although I would rather it not be Edmonton's chief rival.

Pens' 2016-17 home opener will take place October 13 against the Capitals. It will be quite a "banner" night. :D

Leafs picked up Andersen from the Ducks. That's a big goaltending grab for them.

Also, Taylor Hall's name keeps coming up in Oilers talks. I figured Nugent-Hopkins would be the one on the block. Hopefully Edmonton gets a good deal, whichever one they part with.

Very nice. The Vegas gold was nice for a change, but nothing beats that classic Pittsburgh gold.

I have a Vegas Gold home jersey. Maybe I should hang on to the thing in case it's worth something one of these days. :D

It's still a great look, don't get me wrong.

- Toronto drafted Auston Matthews 1st overall in the draft.

- Edmonton drafted Jesse Puljujarvi, a big Finnish winger who could added some needed size and power to the forward lines. Not upset by that pick, was hoping for a defender or a goalie, but a powerhouse forward is good too.

Pens picked up Filip Gustavsson and Kasper Bjorkqvist, both 18 years old.

Beau Bennett is on his way to the Devils.

Good stuff. Unless they want to trade him to Edmonton, of course.
