And that's a wrap for the season.
Boston take the President's trophy and along with Pittsburgh, Colorado and Anaheim win the new divisions in the new system, which I have to admit is not as bad as I thought it would be. I wasn't overly struck on this new conference structure, but it works.
All four Canadian teams in the west made up the bottom four, Edmonton were last there, but third last overall in the league. (The Islanders were just ahead of them in 5th last in the league) They showed the makings of a good team in the last going off after acquiring Scrivens and Fasth as their goaltending unit. The front end seems to have loosened up a little and come out of their defensive shell and they had a great last leg of the season that I think, had they started the season like that, could have made them contenders for the playoffs. Next year will be interesting if they can keep this group mostly together. Ryan Smyth is retiring, sadly without a Cup to his name, but a run in the finals of the Playoffs in '06 and a pair of Olympic gold medals as well as being the face of the Oilers for nearly a decade post-Gretzky. It's a storied career despite being cupless.
Now, onward and upward to the Playoffs.
