As a Canadian, I wouldn't even have the silver lining of him no longer abusing my television viewing.

The Penguins reportedly hired Jim Rutherford as the new GM. For others who don't follow hockey actively as others do, Rutherford was Carolina's GM for 20 years. ‪

Pens will hold a press conference at 1:00 PM Eastern. See the live stream here:

The man who was GM when the Canes sabotaged Dwayne Roloson's knee and stole the cup from the Oilers. He has nothing but my chagrin.

Question now is whether or not Bylsma remains coach under Rutherford's administration. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

It's official: Rutherford is in. Bylsma is out.

Search for a new coach is on!

Bylsma left so fast you'd swear he was the Roadrunner and Rutherford was Wile E. Coyote.

I don't like that analogy, for its future implications of Rutherford's success.

If it's like his past I suspect the Penguins will start clippin' goalies at the knees next playoff season.

I don't think General Managers are that hands-on with strategy.

Yeah, that'll happen. If it was coached, I'd say that it would have been by the, you know, coach.

Unless the GM called/texted down to the coach and said "Less shooting pucks at the goalies, more clippin' them at the knees, dammit."

Well, it's like this, I've followed the Oilers since I was a wee lad and they last won the cup. They were on the bottom of the pile and being jobbed to the Dallas Stars in the playoffs for my teenage years. So when they made it to the finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs only to have their star goalie taken out by a flying Carolina Hurricane, I never forgot it.
