Does it make sense when someone goes into Burger King and orders a Whopper without the burger?

How come some people are very negative towards the idea of Achievements in Xbox 360 games? They claim it takes the fun away from playing a game, but I really do have to protest. I never finished games when I bought them, but the goal of attaining Achievements now motivates me to complete all my games. Plus, it adds another competitive layer to the enjoyment of games, trying to grab more points than your friends and rivals.

Of course, there is a difference between playing BioShock for points, and deliberately grabbing a game that gives you 1000 points in five seconds (TMNT, King Kong etc.), but the later is not how I approach the system. Video games have always been about high scores and competition, so why are people so damn angry towards the 'popping' of Achievements? Most of the time, they are fun to collect anyway. :D

Some people just need to calm down.

At first glance this usually does look kinda silly, but it boils down to fat vs. sugar. Or more like lack of sugar. Sugar isn't used much in soft drinks anymore, it's been replaced by high fructose corn syrup. Not suprisingly, a lot of people can tell this and do not like the taste of it, so they've gotten used to drinking diet drinks. I myself, even when I get the craving for charred, greasy animal fat, still prefer the taste of a non caffinated diet drink. As I suspect many other people do also.

Way to suck the fun out of that comment with your well reasoned logical argument.
